Corvette aficionados the world over will always remember 2003 as one of the great dates in Corvette history. In 2003, Corvette celebrated its 50th Anniversary and produced 11,632 50th Anniversary Red Corvettes to commemorate this milestone.
Probably one of the most significant C5 Corvettes of all time is the 1 of 1 “Going for the Gold” 2003 gold Corvette coupe. This car was painted a special gold color not offered in the in the line-up (it was originally painted on the assembly line and then repainted in the special gold color) and featured special side and hood stripes (gold), Z06 brake inlet ducts and front bumper Z06 grill vents. This one-of-a-kind Corvette was signed by many of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant workers under the hood and on the underside including Plant Manager Wil Cooksey and Corvette’s third Chief Engineer Dave Hill. The 11,000 miles were put on by assembly plant employees as many got to drive as a congratulatory gesture for plant winning the JD Powers Gold award for best assembly plant in the country.
The car was put on display at the National Corvette Museum inside of a bubble and was offered for raffle with a limit of 2003 tickets at $200 each. The drawing took place on June 29, 2003 at the “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and Corvette” Block Party scheduled as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration at the museum. Since it was a one-of-a-kind paint, the plant included to the winner of the drawing various extra body panels painted in the special gold. The extra parts included the front fascia, the hood, both doors, the front fender, both quarter panels and the rear hatch (with no window). All of these additional panels are included as part of this auction. The winner of the drawing traded it to Kerbeck Corvette (the world’s largest new Corvette dealership) who immediately put the gold 03 on display in the Kerbeck Corvette. Heritage Collection.
Along with the car and the additional painted panels mentioned above, we are also including the original window sticker, the build sheet, as well as pictures of the car while on display and many of the original magazine articles advertising the drawing. This car remains in fine condition and has been displayed in the Kerbeck Heritage Collection since 2003. This is truly a rare opportunity to own a significant piece of Corvette history. Equipment on this 2003 Corvette coupe include: 346 ci/350 hp V8 Engine Automatic Transmission Polished Aluminum Wheels Memory Package Electrochromic Mirrors inside and driver’s outside Power Telescopic Steering Wheel Twilight Sentinel Head Up Display.
